How to Clean and Restore a Vintage Coach Bag

Cleaning and restoring a Vintage Coach bag can be very rewarding to do so. It can truly bring back the life of these bags. Vintage Coach leather is very durable and sturdy, therefore there is not much that can be done to harm it. That being said, still use caution while cleaning.
Materials that you will need:
- 1 clean, soft rag or cloth
- Mild soap and water of your choice.
- Leather conditioner of your choice. (I use apple leather cleaner and conditioner or Chamberlain Leather Milk conditioner.)
- A handheld vacuum cleaner.
- Scotch or Masking tape
- Brasso
- Q-Tips
- Paper Towel
Steps to begin:
- Shake out any debris out of the bag into the garbage.
- If still dirty, use the handheld vacuum to clean out interior of the bag.
- Vacuum the interior and exterior pockets of the bag if the bag has pockets.
- Use the tape in areas of the pocket that are inaccessible by the vacuum cleaner to clean and remove any debris.
- Now you are ready to wash the bag. First remove the strap of the bag if it is detachable.
- In a clean tub or nearby basin, fill tub or sink with warm water. Submerge the entire bag into the water.
- Swoosh the bag around the water to clean and remove any remaining debris.
- Let the bag soak for about 10 minutes.
- Come back and swoosh the bag in the water again. If necessary, use a brush to scrub and remove any excess dirt from the bag.
- Empty the dirty water from the tub or sink.
- Rinse the bag with cool water.
- Use a towel or old t-shirt to dry off the bag.
- Place the wet bag down on a different clean towel with its flaps open and with removed strap to dry in front of fan.
- Let the bag air dry in front of the fan for 2 days until completely dry.
- Now that your bag is completely dry, it is time to condition the bag in dry areas only. Do not lather the entire bag with conditioner.
- Do not wash bags that are different colors together. Wash different colors separately because Vintage Coach red dye can bleed and will run on the other bags.
- Remember to condition the strap as well if necessary.
- If the bag has any hardware or turn lock closures, zippers, buckles, etc., you can polish these items with the Brasso and a Q-Tip.
- Dampen a paper towel with warm water to wipe off the brass after the Brasso has been applied. Brasso tends to leave behind a white film.
Now you have a beautifully restored Vintage Coach bag that you will be able to enjoy for years in your collection. This process can be repeated on most of the bags as I have used this process to clean all of my Vintage Coach bags and have received only positive results. #vintagecoachbag #vintagebag #oldcoachbag #thriftedbag #cleaning #restoring #howtoclean #howtorestore #howtocondition #lvluxegirl
